After a long rain period in June/July, the weather finally changed for good. So we packed a light backpack and chose a destination for a short hike. Gigi just bought new hiking boots and wanted to try them.

We drove up to the parking lot in Bad Laterns (1147m) and took to the right over a wooden bridge to get on the hiking trail.

Bad Laterns (Bädle)

The first part is a bit steep and on that day it was slippery from the rain. The path is pretty tight and runs through a forest. After 15 minutes we reached the first intersection and chose the broad and flat path towards Agtawaldalpe (1261m).

part 1

Alongside this path we could see horses which were grazing between the Alp and the river called Frutz. Some wild strawberries (Fragaria Vesca) could already be found here. Once we reached the Agtawaldalpe after another 15 minutes we chose the small path to the left in direction to Gävisalpe.

part 2

This trail winds itself up through a forest, here and there we could find more wild strawberries and in some parts it’s a bit steep. At some point we had to cross an area with lovely horses which really liked our apples 😉 In fact they liked the apples so much, that they even followed us for a bit. With their heads they softly bumped on our arms and backs like “Hey, gimme more of these apples!” 😀

After about 45 minutes we reached the next intersection and had to cross the main road (Furkastrasse) to get on the way towards Neugerachalpe (1614m).

part 3

This way is wide and evenly going up until you reach the Alp after another 15 minutes. We looked for a spot with a nice view to sit down and enjoy our snacks. When the cows saw what kind of snacks we had, they didn’t hesitate too long before getting step by step closer to us in hope to get something else than grass (one of them was even running down the hill!)

We had to relocate to find a place where we could enjoy the gorgeous view, the nice weather and our well deserved snacks peacefully. For the way back we chose the same route because we still had some apples left to give to our new horse friends 🙂
